A colorful traditional opening ceremony kicked off the 13th Annual ASI Inter-America Division Convention Wednesday, August 14, 2013, in the hall of the Barcelo San Jose Palacio Hotel in San Jose, Costa Rica. Special tokens were presented to each chapter president by the Costa Rican delegation, and national memorabilia was handed out to the audience members. Sister Princess Lawes, director for ASI-IAD, introduced the parade of delegations with their national costumes and flags.

The convention featured Pastor Jose Vallejos, president of the Costa Rican Conference; Pastor Wilfredo Ruiz, Union president; Dr. Xinia Lizano, ASI chapter president; Dr. Marston Thomas, president of ASIIAD; and the Tucker Sisters, a local singing group. Pastor Leon Wellington, executive secretary for ASI-IAD, hosted the event, as well as sharing a presentation on how to establish and maintain a vibrant ASI chapter.

A special feature of the convention was the launch of Esperanza TV Costa Rica, marking an important milestone in the Seventh-day Adventist evangelistic efforts in that country. Guest speaker Dr. Ramon Canals, vice president for Hispanic Ministries for the North Pacific Union Conference gave an aweinspiring message that focused on the centrality of love in leading souls into the kingdom of God.
