2020 Projects

The ASI Missions Inc. board has selected 45 projects to receive grants from the offering to be gathered at the 2020 ASI Virtual Convention. The offering goal was $1,490,000. Online donations are accepted toward this year’s offering and previous years’ pledges. Each project will receive the designated amount. All combined, the projects represent a significant worldwide impact. In the unlikely event that any of the listed projects do not progress within a reasonable time, as determined by ASI at its discretion, ASI may redirect the funds from the failed project to another ASI-approved project. Below are the organizations, along with descriptions and planned use of project funds.

1. ADRA Tanzania

$15,000

Heri Adventist Hospital is a nonprofit hospital established to service the underserved population of a remote village in the western end of Tanzania. ASI funds will go towards constructing a new kitchen and cafeteria for Heri Hospital.

2. Adventist Medical Evangelism Network (AMEN)

$10,000

In partnership with SDA churches, AMEN Free Clinics conducts mobile healthcare clinics throughout the US. AMEN Free Clinics offers free medical and dental care as well as counseling, massage, grooming, and health education services to those in need. However, the primary purpose of an AMEN Free Clinic is to help churches evangelize their local communities. ASI funds will go towards the AMEN Free Clinics Subsidy Program which was established to ensure low-income churches are able to sponsor clinics.

3. Adventist World Radio

$35,000 + 1/3 overflow

In 2021, one of the largest evangelistic efforts will take place in Papua New Guinea (PNG). The PNG Union Mission has a goal of over 200,000 baptisms. ASI grant funds will go towards building 1,000 One Day Churches in PNG to house new members. Additionally, funds will go towards supporting outreach efforts in the Middle East and North Africa Union (MENA). AWR has been broadcasting in MENA in four languages. Funds will help translate 90 programs into a fifth language and purchase a radio station in Iraq.

4. ASAP Ministries

$35,000

ASAP believes that ethnic missionaries are the key to winning Southeast Asians for Christ. Public evangelism is prohibited in much of the region, therefore a more creative method for approaching evangelism is necessary. ASAP is focusing on establishing businesses with the purpose of ministry to win souls in Southeast Asia, starting with Laos and Thailand. ASI funds will go towards training and equipping nationals in Southeast Asia to establish small, self-sustaining businesses for evangelism.

5. ASi Europe

$25,000

SEED is an ASI Europe Program which was established to increase the spreading of the Gospel in Europe. SEED aims to bring together all forces in Europe to work hand-in-hand with the Seventh-day Adventist Church in support of a region. ASI grant funds will go towards conducting SEED evangelism in Macedonia, Poland, and Bulgaria.

6. ASI New Beginnings Refresh and Picture Rolls

$100,000 + 1/3 overflow

ASI funds will go towards upgrading the graphics for the New Beginnings evangelism materials to 4K or 6k to ensure longevity of the project as well as creating printable study guides and small group materials to go along with the sermons. Additionally, funds will go towards distributing another 1,500 Picture Roll sets (1 waterproof tube, 2 picture rolls, and 2 booklets) to Papua New Guinea and South America. The demand for this simple evangelistic tool is great.

7. ASI/LIFE Youth for Jesus

$75,000

ASI Youth for Jesus (YFJ) is a four week evangelism training program for youth started by ASI and now operated by LIFE (Lay Institute For Evangelism). The program has been an annual feature of the ASI Convention since 1999, resulting in hundreds of baptisms and the training of over 1,000 youth in the cycle of evangelism. Grant funds will go towards funding the YFJ 2021 program in Grand Rapids, MI.

8. Better Living Ministry

$40,000

Better Living Ministry (Mieux Vivre in French) has been reaching out to French-speaking people in Québec, Canada and around the world since 2009. God has recently provided us with a beautiful country property where we plan to build a multi-purpose building which will house our studio and provide rooms for guests. This building will increase our ability to reach out to our local community through educational health programs. Thank you for partnering with us to reach the French-speaking world for Christ.

9. Christian Record Services for the Blind, Inc.

$15,000

Phone Faith is a phone-based initiative started 10 years ago by Dexter Thomas. Dr. Thomas, who is blind, saw a need to support others in the blind community. Phone Faith is designed to create community connection and address loneliness by connecting individuals with others and with spiritual nourishment. Grant funds will go towards the first annual Phone Faith evangelism reaping event, scheduled to take place in the spring of 2021.

10. Ellen G. White Estate

$30,000

The digital presence of the White Estate has continued to grow steadily throughout 2019, due in part to the availability of translations of Ellen White’s books in many different languages. By digitizing Ellen White’s writings, we have reached 190 of the 193 U.N. recognized nations this past year. People worldwide are being blessed and encouraged by messages inspired by the Holy Spirit. Grant funds will go towards translating and digitizing 52 Ellen White books for free distribution online.

11. Falcos Children Africa, Inc.

$50,000

ASI grant funds will go towards a secondary school in Qurus, a village in Tanzania. Funds will help with the construction of six classrooms, housing for eight teachers, a home for the headmaster, and a water well.

12. Family Development Int’l dba Kibidula Farm Institute

$41,000

In 2009, the idea came to Kibidula to cultivate avocados. By 2016, there were 80 acres under cultivation. Kibidula has been harvesting and selling avocados locally for many years. The past two seasons, they sold their Haas avocado crop to an exporter. In 2018, they sold 13 tons for export. In 2019, they sold over 25 tons of Haas. They are expecting to harvest over 100 tons of Haas during the 2020 season. ASI grant funds will go towards providing an automated irrigation system for the avocado orchard.

13. FARM STEW International

$20,000

With your support, FARM STEW’s trainers share a recipe of abundant life that prevents hunger, disease and poverty. By conducting hands-on classes, they freely share practical skills and resources so that people can help themselves. It’s an acronym standing for organic, sustainable Farming, positive Attitude, Rest, whole-foods plant-based Meals, Sanitation & hygiene, Temperance, small business Enterprise, and clean Water. Jesus desires all to, “have life more abundantly” (John 10:10).

14. Generation. Youth. Christ.

$50,000

ASI grant funds will go towards outreach opportunities at the annual GYC convention in Columbus, Ohio (December, 2020). Funds will support the preliminary planning, execution, and follow-up of the different outreach opportunities. Historically, more than two-thirds of all attendees (2K+) have been involved in GYC’s outreach program. This has led to young people establishing their own outreach programs in their local churches around the world.

15. Howell Mountain Farms at Pacific Union College

$10,000

This spring saw the revival of the historic farm at Pacific Union College (PUC) with an 11-acre vegetable, fruit, and flower operation called Howell Mountain Farms (HMF). HMF will be a student farm, what Ellen White called “God’s own schoolroom” (COL 87), as well as producing substantial amounts of produce for PUC’s Dining Commons, Howell Mountain Market, a farm stand, and Valley restaurants. Project funds will go towards a fully-automated, 30 X 80 foot, propagation house with roll-up sides and heating.

16. Hyve International

$10,000

Hyve International is a group of innovators, entrepreneurs and business leaders inspired by Adventist pioneers to raise up a generation of young people eager to create, inspire, and change the world as missional entrepreneurs. In 2020, Hyve is going global. With new events, conferences, and divisions in North America, South America, Europe and Asia, grant funds will go towards paying four workers and event management costs on these new continents.

17. International Caring Hands

$10,000

International Caring Hands will coordinate with the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Iquitos, Peru, as well as other ASI organizations based in Peru to purchase three ADEC dental units. These units will be used by volunteer dentists, dental hygienists, and dental assistants to serve 2,000 people in Peru during Medical Evangelism outreach efforts. ASI funds will go towards the purchasing of equipment and outreach efforts.

18. ISEI Education Association

$18,000

ISEI is seeking to expand its ministry influence to include support of self-supporting secondary and elementary educational ministries based outside of the United States. There is a growing interest in the country of Romania. ISEI has two member schools in Romania and two additional schools that have received an initial visit. Grant funds will go towards the expansion of services to member and non-member self-supporting schools.

19. Lay Institute for Global Health Training

$150,000

LIGHT is continuing to train thousands of church members and pastors each year in health evangelism through its intensive 125-hour curriculum. Grant funds will help support the growing team of now 55 LIGHT teachers located around the world conducting training courses throughout the year. Funds will also be used to support team workers dedicated to developing and improving LIGHT’s training curriculum and translating it into needed languages.

20. Lineage Journey

$30,000

Lineage Journey has already produced two seasons (100 episodes in total) of videos on the history of the early Christian church, the Reformation, and the birth and rise of the Adventist Church. Grant funds will go towards finishing the project that was started in 2019. This project involves filming the remaining episodes covering The Desire of Ages and Acts of the Apostles to complete the time span of the “Conflict of the Ages” series.

21. Loma Linda Campestre

$15,000

There are three primary mountain spring water sources at the Loma Linda Campestre headquarters. Physical, chemical, and microbiological lab tests were recently done, yielding excellent results in water purity. Grant funds will go towards building a water filtration plant facility with equipment to bottle water.

22. Maranatha z.s.

$25,000

Grant fund will go towards conducting Youth for Jesus (YFJ) training and evangelism programs in two cities, Karvina and Havirov, in the Czech Republic. YFJ is more than month-long, youth-led evangelism programs. It is also a part of the big evangelism project “Touch the heaven” which is supporting the Slovakia Union, ASI Europe, and ASI Czech.

23. Message to the Mountains

$5,000

Grant funds will go towards a Message to the Mountains initiative focusing on producing short videos about healthy living and the Adventist lifestyle. These short videos will include information on vegetarian diets and NEWSTART under the venture New Hope Productions.

24. Mission North

$5,000

Mission North is designed to reach the unreached remote communities of Northern Canada. For two summers in a row, Mission North has brought groups of Adventist youth to the Northern regions to mingle, pray, play, and help the locals in any capacity they can. Grant funds will go towards the mission of taking a dental van and dental volunteers into remote communities to serve indigenous people.

25. Nasledie School Kyrgyzstan

$10,000

Nasledie School has been blessed in recent years with the physical growth of their building for elementary students. However, there is no space for kindergarten children. Grant funds will go towards creating a safe and enjoyable space where children, ages three to six, can play, and learn the basics of mathematics, English, physical education, reading, and crafts.

26. Omega Sante – Fanantenana Training Center

$15,000

Grant funds will go towards constructing and furnishing an additional school building with three classrooms to be used as a secondary school at Omega Santé. The original school building is not big enough, with only four classrooms. Since 2006, the number of students has been increasing. There are currently 160 students. This school is a real blessing to the region, facilitating an average of 20 baptisms a year.

27. One Day Church Project, Inc.

$100,000 + 1/3 overflow

Grant funds will go towards the construction of One Day Church structures by Outpost Centers International member organizations in Zambia and Tanzania.

28. Outpost Centers International

$95,000

Grant funds will go towards providing financial support for missionaries serving in third world countries. These missionaries are working with self-supporting ministries. Funds are distributed quarterly.

29. Peru Projects

$9,000

Peru Projects serves jungle communities of Peru with aerial support for medical evacuations, support flights to the 67 jungle churches, and the movement of over 25 Bible workers. Aerial support is necessary as some of these jungle communities are only accessible by plane. ASI funds will go towards overhauling the Lake 250 airplane’s engine and propeller.

30. Riverside Farm Institute

$20,000

Riverside Farm Institute produces bananas as well as runs a wellness center in Zambia. Tragically, the country is facing its third year of drought as well as massive blackouts. Zambia has been declared the 5th hungriest country in the world due to this drought. Grant funds will go towards the purchase of two large back-up generators to supply consistent power to pump water and to the lifestyle center. Additionally, one generator will be used to maintain cold rooms for the banana crops.

31. Shelter from the Storm, Inc.

$20,000

Grant funds will go towards updating Shelter for the Storm’s headquarters in Florida. The construction includes roof replacement, HVAC replacement, refurbishment of two bathrooms, and the replacement of a damaged garage door.

32. Southwestern Adventist University

$30,000

For over 20 years, Southwestern Adventist University (SWAU) has been conducting a dinosaur excavation research project in the Lance Formation of Eastern Wyoming. The extremely rich bone bed in which quarrying has taken place has produced over 32,000 fossils, which currently gives our museum the distinction of having the largest collection of dinosaur bones from one site in the world. Grant funds will go towards five student scholarships for SWAU’s annual dinosaur project field school.

33. Springs of Life

$10,000

Grant funds will go towards enabling children in Poland to be directly involved in evangelism by using their musical talents. Funds will assist in the purchase of sound equipment for youth music ministry and video production. In Poland, children’s activities are often the only way to reach adults and children.

34. The Biblical World

$25,000

“The Grand Narrative” is a seven-volume series (with seven episodes per volume), tracing the Great Controversy from the post-flood patriarchs to the early church. Volumes I and II have already been released. Grant funds will go towards the development of Volume III to be filmed in Israel and Jordan in 2020. Seven, thirty-minute videos with printed study guides will be developed with a target release in December, 2020.

35. The Pearl Health Center

$22,000

Grant funds will go towards building a medical missionary training school that will provide quality education for students of all ages from Central Asia.

36. Three Angels Broadcasting Network

$100,000

From the inception of 3ABN, there have been a few major changes in the way television is watched. For the last several years, the market has consistently shifted to online viewing, with many watching on their mobile devices, on 3ABN’s apps, on YouTube, Facebook, and more. 3ABN’s bandwidth streaming has recently doubled, meaning that twice as many people are watching 3ABN on these online platforms. Grant funds will help to manage, maintain, and update multiple streaming platforms simultaneously.

37. Twing Memorial Ministries

$10,000

Twing Memorial Ministries plans to evangelize Zanzibar and Unguja through open air evangelism. Grant funds will go towards conducting 10 evangelistic series in Unguja and Zanzibar, buying Bibles and other needed literature, and assisting lay men and pastors in their evangelistic efforts.

38. Uchee Pines Institute

$50,000

ASI grant funds will go towards constructing two, three-bedroom staff homes for Uchee Pines, replacing mobile homes on campus.

39. Water for Life International

$15,000

Grant funds will go towards Water for Life’s evangelistic efforts in the area surrounding their headquarters, the development of the Mission Camp property, and the drilling of water wells in remote villages.

40. Weimar Institute

$40,000

Weimar Institute needs to keep their campus safe. With the Stallant Clinic being open for 12 or more hours daily, strangers are often on campus. We have experienced thefts and even people from the community following students into the college dormitory. Grant funds will go towards a gatehouse that will allow close monitoring of who comes on and off campus, making it safer for students and residents.

41. Western Conference of the SDA Church

$25,000

The “Barvinok” recreational center is a center inspired by the Spirit of Prophecy. The Three Angels’ Messages are preached through medical ministry in addition to healthy lifestyle and other recreation principles. Grant funds will go towards reconstructing an existing building to increase guest capacity at the recreation center.

42. Wildwood Center For Health Evangelism

$25,000

Wildwood understands the importance of creating a dining experience that is not only pleasurable to the palate but is also a hygienic and pleasant environment. The Wildwood cafeteria is an important aspect of the missionary training school as well as an evangelistic hub for community friends. Grant funds will go towards completely refurbishing the student cafeteria as well as purchasing and installing new equipment, furniture, and units for the cooler system.

43. World Youth Group

$30,000

Space is needed for the annual Medical Missionary and Bible Worker (LIGHT) training school. There is no acceptable venue in Cuba to feed and house students outside of the SDA Seminary. The Seminary is no longer able to accommodate World Youth Group’s training school due to the addition of their summer master’s degree programs. Grant funds will go towards constructing a training center in Cuba which will be used to train workers to enter more of the 500+ cities in Cuba with no Adventist presence.

44. Young Disciple Ministries, Inc.

$10,000

Lodging for volunteer staff at Young Disciple Ministries consists of simple, dry cabins. As more and more campers attend each year, staff housing is not adequate to accommodate all the necessary staff. In 2018, out of necessity, a number of staff had to be housed in tents or in overfilled cabins. To adequately accommodate all staff, four new cabins are needed. Grant funds will go towards constructing four, two-room cabins.

45. We Have This Hope Christian Radio

$10,000

Grant funds will go towards increasing the power for the Blackduck station in Minnesota from 800 to 10,000 watts.
