LIGHT – ASI Project Update
The Lay Institute for Global Health Training (LIGHT), a supported ASI Project and offering recipient for 2024, recently shared an update on the progress of their ministry goals for the year. According to LIGHT President Rodney Bowes, the demand for LIGHT’s influence continues to grow, and he is happy to share that its operations continue to be fueled by generous donations that enable it to expand its impact.
Bowes shared, “By God’s amazing grace and your generous support of LIGHT, we have trained thousands of men, women, and children to take hold of medical missionary work and introduced scores of people to Jesus Christ and His last-day message of salvation.” Through the Holy Spirit’s power and hard work, Bowes states that LIGHT is on target to achieve nearly all of its 2024 objectives.
“Despite some setbacks and the re-organization of one of the ministries we planned to partner with, we still intend to send 25 medical missionaries into the Peruvian/Amazon River Basin to bring the gospel to the precious people living in the jungles.
“The revised and updated manual for our flagship course, The Essentials of Health Evangelism, has been expanded to over 600 pages. We have included two new classes, mental health, and health coaching, to expand the tools that our trainees have to reach the communities they serve. The manual includes updated scientific references, professionally designed artwork, and ample space for students to take notes while listening to the lectures. This has proven to be a complex project, but we believe it will have a major impact around the world. We have translators working on this manual in Spanish, Portuguese, French, Arabic, and several Indian languages.”
Bowes also shared that LIGHT is remodeling its office to allow for the recording of new classes to accompany the new manuals, and they hope to start recording in the coming months.
On LIGHT’s goal of partnering with the Adventist Church leadership, Bowes said that their division directors continue to partner with these leaders to provide training for pastors, health professionals, and all lay members of the church.
To date, more than 35,000 church members in more than 90 countries have been empowered through workshops, short courses, and online studies. The organization’s mission is to reach every person with the gospel of Jesus Christ.
