Bringing Life and Living Water to Guatemala

Water for Life (WFL), an ASI project recipient and ministry dedicated to providing safe water to remote villages in northeastern Guatemala, has made significant strides in their mission of drilling wells and fitting them with pumps. ASI’s recent support has enabled WFL to impact the Petén region communities lacking access to clean water.

Providing safe water serves as an entry point for WFL to build relationships within these communities. After the wells are completed, relationships are nurtured through various efforts, including Bible studies conducted by dedicated Bible workers. Spanish Bibles are distributed as part of these efforts, helping to introduce the message of Christ and facilitate spiritual growth alongside the life-changing gift of clean water.

A recent visit to the village of Agua Chiquita by WFL co-founder Gary Bartholomew highlighted the profound impact of this ministry when he was able to witness the genesis of a new Adventist church. Bible workers had been conducting Sabbath studies with local villagers, who actively engage by completing study guides and reading scriptures. Moved by the positive changes, a homeowner expressed the community’s desire to donate property for a new church, stating, “We’ve been thinking about this for a while, and we want to provide property for a little church.”

WFL’s commitment extends beyond immediate relief; the organization has successfully trained local nationals as drillers and pump technicians. Now in their fourth year of independent operation, these trained professionals continue to demonstrate initiative and efficiency, ensuring the sustainability of the water projects.

Bartholomew shares that WFL remains grateful to ASI for the financial support that has made these life-changing projects possible. Through collaborative efforts, over 250 communities—impacting more than 50,000 individuals—now have access to life-saving water, medical supplies, and, most importantly, renewed hope.
